The 1990s
The description of the Office's tasks was revised in 1991 in connection with the reform of provisions in the Constitution concerning the state economy. The new section noted that:
For the purposes of auditing state finances and compliance with the budget there shall be a National Audit Office.
This reform did not influence the Office's position, tasks or authority.
The National Audit Decree, which provides more detailed regulations on the Office's tasks and organization, was revised in 1993, when the Office was given responsibility for auditing the State Guarantee Fund and thus bank subsidies.
The Office's tasks were expanded in 1995 when the Act on the Right of the National Audit Office and the Parliamentary State Auditors to Audit Certain Transfers of Funds between Finland and the European Communities came into force.
