Organisation and status
The National Audit Office is directed by the Auditor General, who is elected by Parliament for a term of six years. The Auditor General is Tuomas Pöysti.
The National Audit Office comprises the Financial Audit unit, the Performance Audit unit and the Administrative and Communications Services unit and Executive Management Support. The Office has around 150 employees. Its headquarters are in Helsinki, with branches in Turku and Oulu.
On 1 January 2001 the National Audit Office began operating as an independent body in connection with Parliament. The position and tasks of the National Audit Office are prescribed in section 90 of the Constitution, the Act on the National Audit Office and certain other Acts.
