In its latest report, the National Audit Office of Finland (NAOF) has compiled the impacts of its work on sustainable development. Audit and oversight work promotes the efficiency, accountability and transparency of public institutions, in particular.

As NAOF celebrates its 200th anniversary, we continue to work within the framework of our mandate to strive to produce reliable and relevant audit and oversight information that are important to central government finances and financial management. This anniversary also marks a moment where we can reflect on what we can learn from other Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) to enhance our own operations, and how we, in turn, can contribute to helping other institutions improve and refine their work.

The National Audit Office's work is guided by an audit and oversight plan, and its audit topics are decided by the Auditor General. The plan has now been supplemented with 20 new audit topics for the next few years. In its oversight activities, the NAOF is preparing for the combined county and municipal elections to be held in the spring.

Public finances continue to face challenges. This emphasises the role of a cost-effective central government and transparent use of public funds. The NAOF's audits provide information for example for the planning of several measures set out in the Government Programme.

The National Audit Office (NAOF) has updated its audit and oversight plan, which guides its work, for the years 2023–2026. Twelve new audit topics were added to the plan. Changes are expected in the focus areas of fiscal policy monitoring.
