National Audit Office
The National Audit Office of Finland is an independent and neutral expert body. Its task is to audit the legality and propriety of the state's financial management and compliance with the state budget. The National Audit Office produces useful and reliable information on the state's financial management, compliance with the budget and administrative activities for Parliament, the Government and other levels of administration.
The National Audit Office protects citizens' and taxpayers' interests by auditing the collection of state revenues, the use of state funds and the management of state property. It promotes economy, efficiency and effectiveness in state administration by conducting audits and expert tasks related to the control of financial management.
The National Audit Office has the right to obtain the information it requires to perform its task from auditees. State authorities and business enterprise must immediately report any abuse of funds to the National Audit Office. The National Audit Office reports improprieties to the appropriate body and sees that any improprieties and shortcomings observed in audits are corrected.
